Fall and winter weddings in the Midwest bring endless opportunities to embrace rich color palettes, inviting textures, warm lighting, and seasonal details. While these elements are often associated with cooler-weather celebrations, there’s no single way to bring them to life. At Mercantile Hall in Burlington, Wisconsin, a talented team of Milwaukee-area wedding vendors explored the season through distinctive fashions, creative florals, beautiful desserts, and two uniquely designed tablescapes that offer fresh perspectives on seasonal wedding style.

Romantic Fall Wedding Ceremony, Florals & Bridal Fashion
The right venue is crucial for bringing a wedding vision to life. Located in downtown Burlington, Mercantile Hall is perfect for couples seeking a historic venue with vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, warm lighting, and wooden floors. Venue renovations have added modern comforts while preserving the character and beauty of the original architecture. These comforts include indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as multiple suites to prepare for a wedding day on-site.
Northern Planning Co. took the lead on planning and design, with elegant white drapery from Dream House Events LLC anchoring a floral-filled ceremony featuring arrangements by The Flower Bar and Anna’s Floral. The floral approach was organic yet sculptural, combining varying heights and textures into pieces that felt gathered rather than overly curated. Prominent botanicals included burgundy amaranthus, dried hydrangeas, terracotta garden roses, cymbidium orchids, leucadendron, and ornamental grasses, accented with earthy moss and textural dried botanicals.
The contrast between the crisp white drapery and richly colored florals created a romantic focal point without competing with Mercantile Hall’s historic architecture. For couples planning a similar ceremony design, varying the heights and shapes of floral arrangements can add dimension, while incorporating dried botanicals and natural textures helps bring a seasonal palette to life.

Before posing at the ceremony backdrop, four bridal models received makeup from NK Artistry LLC and Makeup by Mags, and hair styling from Kinsey Swartout Hairstylist. The vendors took a unique approach for each model, creating individualized looks that ranged from traditional to modern. NK Artistry LLC chose a neutral-glam palette, adding varying amounts of smoky shades and dramatic eyeliner, while keeping the lips natural. Kinsey Swartout Hairstylist crafted a traditional updo, a loose, face-framing updo, a half-updo with long curls, and loose Hollywood waves tucked behind the ears.
Bon Bon Belle Bridal Boutique outfitted each model in a distinct bridal gown and provided veils and accessories, including removable sleeves, to match the style and season. Removable accessories are especially appealing for fall and winter weddings, letting couples add texture, create a second look, or adapt their attire to the weather throughout the celebration.
An Organic Fall Wedding Tablescape with Florals & Seasonal Fruit
The first tablescape setting kept rich pops of color bright against a white drapped tablecloth on a dark wooden table. Details included white plating, silverware, white-and-burgundy striped napkins with wooden napkin rings, lit candles, and crystal glassware. The centerpiece was perhaps the most eye-catching part of the styling, with a mossy layer serving as a floral table runner surrounded by seasonal fruit as décor (pomegranates, grapefruits, grapes, cranberries), deep burgundy calla lilies, and subtle branches.
Floral elements also cascaded from the edges of the table, gathering into floor installations of textured grasses, blooms, and even more fruit.

Rich Burgundy Velvet Wedding Tablescape Inspiration
A burgundy velvet tablecloth at the second tablescape set the foundation for a warm, sophisticated reception space. This space also featured layered white plating, silky white napkins, crystal glassware, gold flatware, glowing candles, and name cards by Jaime Rose Coordination & DIY.
Fruit as décor was also prominently featured across the center of the table, with pears, grapes, and dragonfruit weaving through floral centerpieces of dark hydrangea, blush roses, and burgundy calla lilies.

While the first tablescape embraced an airy, organic look, this design leaned into the richness of the season. The burgundy velvet introduced depth and softness, complemented by warm candlelight, gold accents, and romantic florals. The result was an intimate, luxurious setting that felt especially fitting for a fall or winter wedding.

Seasonal Wedding Cakes with Fruit & Winter Botanicals
While the time of year can certainly influence wedding cakes and desserts, there are endless possibilities for the perfect treats. For the first tablescape, Kindred Bakeshop created a three-tier white cake that blended seamlessly into the design and color palette thanks to asymmetrical fruit garnishes between layers.

At the velvet tablescape, Kindred Bakeshop took a holiday-forward approach to wedding cake design. They created a simple, classic one-tier white cake decorated with pine branches, a pinecone, and winter berries.
