Erika and Shannon began building their lives together in 2016, when they met while in medical school in Philadelphia. Adventure and career opportunities next brought them to Houston, where their family began to grow. While in Texas, they adopted a dog, Sasha, and then learned they were expecting a baby. After their son was born, the couple decided on another big move to California, where they are currently settled.
Honoring their roots was an important part of Shannon’s proposal. The couple traveled back to Philly, where he proposed on the Rocky steps in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum. Erika’s brother was also in on the surprise, capturing photos that the couple will cherish forever.
Wedding planning can feel like a big endeavor, especially for couples planning from out of state. Still, Erika and Shannon were determined to tie the knot in Shannon’s home state of Wisconsin. They knew they would need a little help managing the vendors and details, and found a perfect match in their wedding planner, Heather Farr Events. Erika wrote,
“Our fantastic wedding planner [Heather Farr Events] was the only reason it all came together, the most amazing venue, the beautiful flowers, the extra special touch from the vintage furniture rental, the most talented band…. Everything was perfect.”
The historic Cooperage Milwaukee is a riverside music hall, event space, and wedding venue with a modern industrial feel, vaulted ceilings, and in-house catering and bar services. The venue also boasts a beautiful outdoor ceremony location, where Erika and Shannon exchanged vows surrounded by their friends and family.
Erika’s wedding dress featured a ruched bodice, off-the-shoulder sleeves, luxe jacquard fabric, and a slit in the skirt for just a hint of drama. Shannon wore a classic black suit, a white undershirt, and black dress shoes. He was also accessorized with a taupe bow tie, a colorful floral boutonniere, and custom monogramming on the inside of his suit collar.
Bridesmaids’ dresses were personal and unique, each a different color and featuring intricate floral patterns.
So, what was the day’s color palette? Colorful! Florist Ritual Floral designed wildflower-inspired bouquets and arrangements featuring every color of the rainbow, as well as a variety of textures and blooms. Flowers adorned the ceremony scene, the sweetheart table, the bar, the reception, the stage, and the dessert table, creating a vibrant, joyful atmosphere. Erika gushed, “The flowers were unbelievable – and no one loved them more than our 15 month old son!”
The reception began with a cocktail hour and delicious appetizers from the Cooperage. Erika and Shannon spent time creating a personalized seating chart for their guests. Once guests had identified their seats, they were each greeted with a special photo on their plate. The photos were both recent and nostalgic, and guests loved reminiscing.
Other highlights from the reception included polaroid photos, an interactive Jenga guest book, yard games, delicious desserts from Greige Pâtisserie, matchbook and mint favors–and live music from the Bluewater Kings Band! Live music was a priority for Erika and Shannon, who also had an orchestral ensemble during their ceremony. The Bluewater Kings Band is an award-winning, high-energy band that kept the dance floor full all night.
